How to choose buoyancy and ballast

Trim slightly positive

Most ROVs are trimmed to float very slightly, so a vehicle that loses power comes back up. Work out the net weight in water first, then the foam to offset it.

Foam grade sets the depth

Foam compresses and loses buoyancy past its rated depth. Choose the grade for your deepest dive; deeper grades are denser and give less lift per litre.
